This annual competition engages students grades 6-8 (Junior Division) and 9-12 (Senior Division) in the process of discovery and interpretation of historical topics. Working individually or in groups, students learn how to define a historical question, locate source material, take notes, analyze information and, ultimately, make a presentation. Students also develop skills in research, writing, critical thinking, and communication while perfecting their chosen topic. Topics are based on an annual theme in one of the five categories: Paper, Performance, Exhibit, Documentary, and Website. Projects are then evaluated at regional, state, and national competitions.
